This is the last post of the European Tour!

What a momentous occasion. I am in Athens, Greece, not GA. Wow, what a different world! How historic! Let me just describe HOW we got here! Since the Greek airlines are having a strike, all our tickets were returned about 2 days ago, while we were in London. Frantic to get us to Greece for this festival we are playing in a few hours, our tour managers booked us on a charter flight. Oh you cannot imagine. It was like the movies.

Well, let me say that we had a lobby call yesterday morning at 5:30 AM which meant we had to be packed and functioning by that time. Well, most of us did not actually go to bed the night before because we had just finished a festival, our friends were all hanging out, and it was a beautiful night not to be wasted. SO, having gotten 30 minutes of sleep, I was awakened by Ali at 10 till 5:00. We were not functioning very well at all, and were driven to the private section of London’s Luton Airport. We sat in a nice waiting room - more like we lay around (floor, sofas, chairs) sipping tea and coffee while two attractive women checked our passports, and ran our bags through a security check. We were ushered through the back door, and there was the plane. This glistening gold and white shiny streak of mechanical perfection waited for us.

The captain smiled as we walked up the stairway. Inside was all leather, all beautiful, captain chairs, lazy-boy style, a table with a few more of these lush chairs, and a back lounge with two more of these chairs and a sofa. All in leather, and that shiny wood that’s inside of nice limousines. It was breathtaking.

Oh, and the bathroom! It was like the master suite! Carpeted floors and all the bathroom items you could imagine, and a very comfortable toilet! I will try to enclose pictures, but they don’t come close to accurately depicting the moment. We took off, no problems, and the flight attendant served us a delightful breakfast. I closed me eyes and when I opened them I felt the wheels gently graze the ground. We were there. A 3.5 hr flight was nothing more than 15 minutes to me. Oh, and it was ALL because of the comfort of these chairs - and I didn’t even have mine reclined!!!! Ahh. We all agreed that we could easily get used to that, but then Moby explained the flight price difference. For all of us to travel on regular airlines it’s maybe $2000 or $3000, but to charter a plane it’s $45,000. Ahh. But, lucky for Moby we were sharing this plane with Duran Duran (they are apparently in Greece and had chartered this plane to leave), so I think he got a bargain deal. Oh, and inside the plane there was this guestbook. People like Ozzie Osbourne, Tony Blair, Justin Timberlake, Ben Stiller, had signed (to name a few). Oh wow.

Now I am in Greece, and slept many hours last night after having dinner with Mo and the gang at the foot of the Acropolis. Oh breathtaking! We walked up after dinner to get a closer look through winding stone footpaths of stairs. It was beautiful. We got back to the hotel and sat up on the rooftop deck with views of the Acropolis and other historic hills. After about 30 minutes we had the pleasure of seeing the moon rise over one of the mountains. It was full when we played Versailles, so last night it was waning, but giant and breathtaking!

I just finished a bath in a Jacuzzi style tub, and this thing is a brilliant machine. (Parents, I am seriously considering getting one for you to install in the upstairs bathroom!) It is made like a bathtub, with all the jets for the bubbles. There is a neck pillow, a shelf to rest your toes while the jets massage the bottoms of your feet, two shooting water into your hips, and one just under your neck. Ohhhh the beauty, THEN, there is a door halfway through the tub to close off the shower! Which is installed near your left knee, if you picture yourself lying down in the tub. Well, I was shaving my legs, with the jets on of course, and the soap I used was apparently really foamy. After about 5 minutes, to my shock, there were bubbles EVERYWHERE! They were more than a foot thick near my stomach, and had started climbing up the wall above my feet. I am talking A LOT of bubbles! So many that I got afraid that they might soon get out of control and start taking over the bathroom! I ran to grab my camera, of course, and so many bubbles were on me that they tracked all over the bathroom and the bedroom of this hotel! I had to let the water out, and decided on showering the rest of the way. I tried to turn on the shower and as I was pulling out the thing that makes the water go from the tub faucet to the shower faucet, I was slapped in the face by sharp shooting water. The shower ALSO HAD jets that shot at your body all up and down! But these felt more like sea nettles for the sting of their thin spray. I figured out how to turn them off, and managed to wash the conditioner out of my hair with the normal overhead shower. Ahhh, what fun!

Next I will try out the rooftop pool! But I just got the call to be in the lobby in 20 minutes. AH! Bye!

Love!
Luci

Ireland / Versailles

Oh whoa, if there is Heaven on Earth it is Ardgillan Castle just outside of Dublin, Ireland. What a beautiful day it was there. I have tried to enclose some pictures but they are not even close to replicating the beauty of that day! We played for about 50,000 Irish and it was too much fun. REM played right after us, and we were congratulated by Michael Stipe. I recognized him from many nights at Go and 284 in Athens, although I thought he looked much better now. I am right now on the Eurostar taking the train from Paris to London. Beautiful! Outside my window are little clusters of stone houses surrounded by green farms, with small steeples peaking through the villas. Ahh. Travelling is completely amazing. We are having much fun as this European tour winds down.

Ardgillan Castle. This is from standing on the top of the hill; the stage (and water) is behind me.

The Stage. This is taken from in front of the castle. Looking at the stage you see this. The people were only just trickling in at this point. The even more amazing thing was when we performed from the stage. Our view was a giant hill covered in thousands of people, and at the top a beautiful castle. Oh breathtaking!

Last night we played at Versailles (which is basically the biggest castle I’ve ever seen in my life) with probably hundreds of other bands. Our dressing rooms were INSIDE the castle, and the show began at 9:00. We were on at 11:50 and the lights of the night on the castle and surrounding grounds were absolutely beautiful. I could not snap out of my fairytale, pretending I lived in and walked along the long stone arched hallways and scurried up the rows of stairs leading to upper levels. Oh, it was delightful! I will try to send some good pictures of this, but the grandeur, I’m not sure it can be captured on film.

The stage at sound check, Versailles. This is the view the audience and the TV cameras would have had.

Versailles at night. This is the backdrop for the stage. The castle. Oh wow. Beauty. But you cannot imagine what a SMALL portion of the castle this actually was! Just a little edge of one of the wings in the courtyard.

Paris

Wow, we have had a beautiful last few days! We got to Paris on Friday evening (June 17 I think) for a giant festival (30,000) on Saturday. Ahhh, it was a lot of fun. In a huge soccer stadium. I actually walked on the grass and felt the athletic flow from so many soccer greats. And then we came back to the hotel. We have the guy (and his wife) who won the Apprentice auction with us now for the next few days, and they, along with some old friends of Daron, made a nice crowd as we sat down in the lobby pondering where to grab something to eat.

After a few minutes, Daron’s friend Keith sat down at the upright that was sitting in the middle of the room. He started playing Riders On The Storm. Daron, who you may know of as the other Jim Morrison, walked up to the piano and began to take it away. This was only the beginning. We called Moby to come down and he and Daron whipped up several songs, including Billy Idol’s Rebel Yell sung slow jazz style, and It Takes Two (rap song) performed piano ballad style.

Wow. Then others joined in, Laura singing a rendition of Sweet Child of Mine, Scott going away on Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song, and the crowd crooning together in all sorts of complex harmonies in the background (and foreground!) of everyone’s solos. This went on for hours! Or so it seemed. At one point I too played a several ditties, Laura sang I Will Survive, a few gents wailed Your Song, and the crowd chorused together on Living On A Prayer to name a few. It was too much! We went to sleep laughing that night, with 80s rock melodies floating through our minds.

We have videos, woohoo! (These are in Windows Media Format [.wmv] - hopefully everyone will get to view them)

Prague!

I don’t want to say that I’d enjoy living so far away from home, but I think I’d enjoy living here! This city is like stepping into a clean and pristine time warp. Look at these pictures! And no, it’s not Disney World. It’s all REAL, it’s really like this! I am so happy. It seems like I should be riding on my chestnut brown horse wearing a long dress and my hair braided over the cobblestone bridge up to the castle on the hill. Ahh, if only! We stayed in an over the top modern hotel with a bathroom exactly like how I’d like to design my own. Here are a few pictures of this delightful city. The weather, the people, the architecture, oh boy. I don’t want to leave tonight!!! Boooooooooooooo.

Oh, what a wonderful world!

So since I have last written, we have made it through Geneva...

St. Petersburg...

At the airport. We landed that night around 10:45, and this picture was taken just before 11:00 PM! They call this time of year “White Nights”. I can see why.

... Moscow, and Kiev. Wow, let me say how different things are in the eastern side of Europe! We have had an extremely rigorous schedule the past 4 days, so unfortunately there was hardly any time to see anything of these beautiful cities. In Moscow we did have a 2-hour escapade to the Red Square and you can see the fantastic pictures of beautiful Moscow.

At Red Square - notice the Stalin statue on the left

This is point ZERO, where all places in the world are measured from. I’m not sure what that means, but it is good luck to stand on the center and throw a coin over your shoulder. So I did!

Moscow after our show

Kiev was beautiful! I never thought I'd be in the Ukraine, what a great place. It was so clean and quiet. Our hotel was actually floating on the river. Wow! Check out this view from my room... I had a little balcony and everything!

We ate some delicious local cuisine. In the picture you can see the Ukrainian soup, Borscht. Amazing!! And there were these things called vareniki, which were home-made ravioli-like things that were stuffed with potatoes and mushrooms, and you put a little sour cream on top of them. Ohh baby! Check out this adorable restaurant, and its pet! She sat right in the door as you came in. Awwwww!

We had a crazy after party at the Kiev show, where the music was familiar (Moby Hotel) and the conversations were interesting. The Russian women are really gorgeous! Needless to say all the guys were very happy! It was a wild night for many.

Here's a picture of some of our talented crew boys the morning after. Ahh. (Left to right, Dan, Niall, Randy, and Steve)

Russia

I have no time to write, as we are off to Kiev at this 8:00 AM lobby call, but here is a picture of me and the gang in Moscow to tide you over until I get time to write a good report. Wow, what a city!

Spain

We have had no internet access for several days now, and I haven’t even had time to write a good summary! Things are going very well. We have been to hot and sunny Spain where I met up with some of my dearest Spanish friends! Ahh, and had amazingly good food. We ordered this type of beef that came out raw and you cooked it on top of a hot stone. It melted in your mouth because they had it covered with chunks of salt, and with the fried potatoes and tomatoes and oooh it was amazing. I am here to say that I believe Spain has the best food in Europe. I will keep reporting on that if I ever discover anything different.

We are in Brussels today and just finished a “showcase” for the record label, where we played 12 songs in a TV studio for about 250 people, and they shot some of the songs for video. All is going well. Moby is continuously winning gold records in many of these countries. I think the album’s doing well. Now there is rumor that we may even be playing for the Pope! Haaa! I will certainly keep you updated on that. So sorry I have to go now. We are getting on the bus to drive to Zurich I believe. According to Moby we have only 3 more nights on the bus. SAD!!! I’m going to miss it, and our Australian driver, George. I will send pictures soon. Today was overcast but I had a lovely galavant through ole Brussels where I saw some beautiful churches, the Grand Palace, and the Manekin Pis, which is a little boy sculpture in a fountain that is “pis” (to use the Belgian word) -ing into the fountain. Unique, but not such a big deal. Very small! Ok! We’re off!

Love!!
