Paris
Wow, we have had a beautiful last few days! We got to Paris on Friday evening (June 17 I think) for a giant festival (30,000) on Saturday. Ahhh, it was a lot of fun. In a huge soccer stadium. I actually walked on the grass and felt the athletic flow from so many soccer greats. And then we came back to the hotel. We have the guy (and his wife) who won the Apprentice auction with us now for the next few days, and they, along with some old friends of Daron, made a nice crowd as we sat down in the lobby pondering where to grab something to eat.
After a few minutes, Daron’s friend Keith sat down at the upright that was sitting in the middle of the room. He started playing Riders On The Storm. Daron, who you may know of as the other Jim Morrison, walked up to the piano and began to take it away. This was only the beginning. We called Moby to come down and he and Daron whipped up several songs, including Billy Idol’s Rebel Yell sung slow jazz style, and It Takes Two (rap song) performed piano ballad style.
Wow. Then others joined in, Laura singing a rendition of Sweet Child of Mine, Scott going away on Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song, and the crowd crooning together in all sorts of complex harmonies in the background (and foreground!) of everyone’s solos. This went on for hours! Or so it seemed. At one point I too played a several ditties, Laura sang I Will Survive, a few gents wailed Your Song, and the crowd chorused together on Living On A Prayer to name a few. It was too much! We went to sleep laughing that night, with 80s rock melodies floating through our minds.
