Hello Again!
Ohhh it has been a long time since I posted, I guess I don’t need to state the obvious! But since then some moments in history have been made here in NYC! I thought I’d attempt to update my life (which so far is slightly quiet) and report on the NY moments of history from my perspective.
Moment of History (since the last post): The NY Transit Strike!
This is a picture of 5th avenue, which I walked down the middle of, with my two suitcases, a backpack, and a purse, because there were SO MANY people on the sidewalks. Everyone had walked 400 or more blocks to get to work, and many were probably just arriving, even though this picture was taken well after noon. Lots of outdoor time that day. 5th Avenue was closed off for emergency traffic only, ambulances, police cars, etc. I was making my way down 25 and across 9 blocks to Pennsylvania Station to take a New Jersey Transit train to Newark Airport to get home (to Savannah). Thanks to my flight being delayed I made it just in time!!! The 45 minute sprint-walk in 26 degree weather obviously added some spice to my travel plans.
Then there were the holidays! Lovely, lots of family and friends and, most importantly, FOOD! I ate for approximately 37 hours straight through New Years - way to ring in 2006! It was great to catch up with my friends in Atlanta, Savannah, Athens, Florida, and family from around the globe. Ahh Christmas. See the lovely dinner table, a perfect summary of how I spent most of my time in Georgia.
Then there was...... Luci’s period of lull. With friends passing through, and stricken with a serious winter bleh illness, I really spent much of the past few weeks reading, listening to music, playing the keyboard, and moaning about how bad I felt. On occasion I went downtown to hear some good music, or met with friends to keep my communication skills in tact, but other than that we would definitely have to consider the past few weeks a lull. My mind was so clouded with sickness that I did many stupid things, like go to the post office to mail a package and get there, be in line, and have forgotton to get the address. Or return to the post office to mail the package, get there, have the address, be in line purchasing the envelope in which to mail the package, and realize I left the package at home! Ooooooh. When you’re sick it’s best to stay in a soft bed with amazing sheets (my big Christmas present this year was a set of 1000 thread-count sheets, oooh luxury!) and read simple books and magazines, or watch the olympics. Moment of History: The Great NY Snowstorm! In the history of New York weather, this was the most snow to fall in one storm, EVER. 26.9 inches recorded in Central Park. Wow. And how exciting I was here to experience it! Well, it wasn’t so strange, because I think last year or the year before it snowed 25 inches. But still, it is sooooooo exciting for me when it snows! And this snowstorm had all kinds of wind and intense thunder and lightening in the middle of the night! The thunder sounded so different than a summer thunderstorm! It was thrilling!
All is well in NYC! I hope to start working part time for the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function in March, and I’ll keep you posted on the musical endeavors! Exciting times here in the Big Apple!
